About the firm
Hondl, Konić, Šimunović and Batur Law Firm Ltd. continues a long legal tradition whose origins date back to 1939, when Dr Aleksandar Hondl began his law practice. The practice was continued and developed by lawyers Bianka Hondl and Alek Konić, and today’s firm has operated in continuity since 1998, when it was established as the law firm Hondl, Konić and partners.
In 2013, the law firm Šimunović & Batur joined the partnership, led for more than ten years by partners Stella Šimunović and Maja Batur. Through this integration, the firm’s existing litigation and civil law practice was further strengthened by experience in commercial law, company law, mergers and acquisitions, legal due diligence, contract law and advising domestic and foreign investors. Before establishing their own firm, Stella Šimunović and Maja Batur worked as legal and business advisers at KPMG Croatia, which further shaped their practical and business-oriented approach to legal advice.
Today the firm provides legal assistance to domestic and foreign natural and legal persons across a wide range of practice areas, with a focus on commercial and corporate law, civil and contract law, property development, real estate and land registry law, civil and commercial disputes, property and possession rights, contractual relations, damages, insurance law, employment law, family law, succession law, enforcement and insolvency proceedings, European Union law and legal support for investment and business transactions.
The firm’s particular value lies in the combination of long-standing litigation practice, experience in advising business entities and an individual approach to each matter. The team seeks to address legal issues clearly, responsibly and practically, with an understanding of the broader business, property or personal context in which the client is situated.
The firm has international experience in M&A transactions, as well as experience of cooperation with law firms in the region and abroad, depending on the needs of the individual client and the complexity of the matter.
The firm’s team comprises experienced lawyers and associates who provide legal services in Croatian and English, and individual team members also in German. The firm operates from Zagreb, with long-standing experience of working with domestic and international clients.

Our approach
A legal problem is rarely resolved by interpreting statutes alone. Sound advice requires an understanding of the facts, documents, deadlines, the relationship between the parties, the business or personal context and the real objective the client wishes to achieve.
Hondl, Konić, Šimunović and Batur Law Firm approaches matters proactively, clearly and responsibly. We seek to identify legal risks before they escalate into disputes, and when a dispute has already arisen, to direct the course of action towards a legally sound and workable solution.
Understanding the context
The first step is to understand the facts and the client’s interests. In business matters, this includes understanding the transaction, the contractual relationship or the industry framework. In private matters, it means understanding the personal, property and evidential context before proposing a legal step.
Distinguishing what matters from what does not
In every matter we seek to clearly separate facts that are legally decisive from circumstances that may be important for the relationship between the parties but are not necessarily decisive for the proceedings. This saves time, reduces costs and facilitates decision-making.
Clear communication
We seek to provide advice clearly, concisely and understandably. The client should be informed of possible steps, deadlines, risks and documentation required for further action, without unnecessary complication of legal language.
Preventive action
Where possible, we give priority to dispute prevention: quality contractual documentation, timely warnings, internal rules, business compliance and negotiations before the relationship escalates.
Procedural discipline
In disputes and proceedings, particular attention is paid to deadlines, evidence, the sequence of steps and a realistic assessment of the prospects of a given legal strategy. Legal work must be legally precise, but also operationally feasible.
Confidentiality and responsibility
The relationship with the client is based on trust, professional secrecy and responsible handling of information. Sending an initial inquiry via the website does not replace legal analysis nor does it mean that the firm has accepted representation.
International capability
The firm provides legal services in Croatian and English, and individual team members also in German. Where necessary, it cooperates with other law firms in the region and abroad, depending on the client’s needs and the complexity of the matter.
